THE ISLAND
Often referred to as the Crown Jewel of the Great Lakes, Mackinac Island gracefully sits between Michigan’s two peninsulas, where the absence of cars allows the island’s charm and tranquility to shine. Accessible only by ferry or small aircraft, guests explore its streets on foot, by bicycle, or in horse-drawn carriages, creating a timeless, unforgettable experience.
Airports
Several airports are available for guests traveling by air.
There are regional flights available to fly into the Mackinac Island Airport (MCD). For more details visit their website.
The next closest airport is Pellston Regional Airport (PLN), located about 20 minutes from Mackinaw City with easy access to the Mackinaw City ferry docks. For more details visit their website.
Located in Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa County International Airport (CIU), provides additional commercial flight options. CIU is located approximately 45-50 minutes from the St. Ignace ferry docks. For more details visit their website.
Cherry Capital Airport (TVC), located in Traverse City, is the larger regional airport and offers the widest selection of flights; however, it is approximately a 2.5-hour drive to both the Mackinaw City ferry docks and St. Ignace ferry docks. For more details visit their website.
Airport to Ferry Terminal Shuttles
Convenient shuttles are available from nearby airports directly to the ferry terminals in Mackinaw City or St. Ignace. Soon, you’ll be gliding across the sparkling waters, leaving the mainland behind and arriving on the timeless beauty of Mackinac Island!
Mackinaw Shuttle Service: This is the best option for those flying into Pellston. They offer roundtrip service between Pellston Regional Airport and the Mackinaw City ferry docks for $60 per adult.
There is no regular shuttle service between Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City and the Mackinaw City ferry terminal. Reservations for this service must be made in advance. One-way transfer costs $495 for the first passenger and $35/additional passenger.

Note: There is an additional one-time fee of $35 for late-night arrivals (after 4:00 PM) or early morning departures (before 8:00 AM) added to each reservation.
Northern Transport & Shuttle: Northern Transport & Shuttle offers roundtrip service between Chippewa County International Airport and the St. Ignace ferry docks. Please call (906) 430-5337 for more information.
Sunset Premier Shuttle: Sunset Premier offers luxury private car transportation from Pellston Regional Airport and Cherry Capital Airport to the Mackinaw City ferry terminal. Reservations can be made by calling (231) 497-1182.

Ferry
Guests traveling to Mackinac Island by ferry may depart from Mackinaw City, located south of the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, or St. Ignace, located north of the bridge in the Upper Peninsula.
Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry and Arnold Transit Company provide frequent passenger service from both locations, with departures approximately every 30 minutes during the primary tourist season, which runs from late April through the end of October.

If you arrive by ferry and are staying at Grand Hotel, luggage transfer is simple and convenient. When you check in your luggage with the ferry service on the mainland, it will be tagged and delivered to your hotel room. Upon check-in, present your luggage tags at the front desk. If you are arriving close to 6:00 PM, you may want to bring your evening wear with you to the hotel as luggage transfer may take up to three hours to get to the hotel from the dock.
Carriage Taxi
With no vehicles allowed on the island, transportation is primarily provided by horse-drawn taxi cabs, which are available 24 hours a day.
Grand Hotel is a 15-to 20-minute walk from the ferry docks. Grand Hotel operates horse-drawn carriages between the docks and the hotel. As with all taxi services on Mackinac Island, there is a per person cash fee and seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.
Upon your arrival to the docks on Mackinac Island, you will be greeted by a dock porter who can answer any questions you may have regarding luggage or taxi transportation to the hotel.

Following the ceremony at Trinity Episcopal Church, guests will be transported by carriage to Grand Hotel for the reception.

We recommend booking early, as accommodations are limited on the island. Please note that breakfast is included in the mandatory fees.
Off Island
On the mainland, there are several lodging options conveniently located near the ferry landings in Mackinaw City. A few of these options are listed below. Please note that if you choose to stay on the mainland, you will need to allow adequate time to take the ferry to the island and return by ferry at the end of the evening.
